Report Association Day 2026 in Hattert

Westerwald Choral Association Day – 01.03.2026 in Hattert

Tanja Machalet takes over as Head of the Choir Association – Alfred Labonte appointed Honorary Chairman

At the Association Day of the Westerwald Choir Association, the management of the association was reorganized. In the future, Dr. Tanja Machalet will lead the choir association instead of Alfred Labonte, who already wanted to give the office in younger hands at the last election, and try to give new impulses. Alfred Labonte was appointed Honorary Chairman for his services to the Choir Association.

Previously, the activities of the past year were examined and the plans of the current year and the following years were presented.

78 delegates from 45 associations and 9 board members attended the Association Day, which

the MGV Hattert in the Rothbachhalle was well looked after organizationally. After the musical welcome by the local choir under the direction of Bruno Bmüller and the welcome by the previous chairman Klaus Krämer, Chairman Alfred Labonte opened the Association Day. In your greetings, the members of the Westerwaldkreis Gabi Wieland, the members of the association community Hachenburg Nathalie Benner and the mayor of the community Klaus-Peter Enders emphasized the importance of the choirs in the Westerwald.

The head of the financial administration Raimund Schäfer reported on a solid cash situation and made it clear that the choir association carried out the project choir classes with 8 primary schools with a total of 10 classes in the school year 2024/25. This was made possible by the financial contributions of the Westerwaldkreis and two association municipalities. Unfortunately, the support of the Westerwaldkreis expired in 2025. Nevertheless, the choir association continues this successful project and in the school year 2025/26 performs 9 choir classes at 5 primary schools and tries to attract other partners for this project.

The musical director Mario Siry addressed the project ChorAktiv, which was successfully presented last year on the market square Bad Marienberg. He also re-examined the project "Chorclasses" and referred to the complementary measures the Continuing education of primary school teachers, which was held in autumn 2025 as a post-secondary seminar. A new project ‘Westerwälder Spatzen’ is being implemented for the children’s choir area. With the resumption of the meeting of the children's choirs, this area is to be more closely networked in order to promote the further development of the children's choirs.

Alfred Labonte, spokesman for the association's management, outlined the past activities in the choir association, went into detail about the status of the work on the cultural development plan of the state government and criticized the insufficient political will to install cultural work as a mandatory municipal service. He congratulated all choirs that celebrated a round anniversary last year and referred to the numerous honors that were awarded to singers in the Westerwald last year.

Prior to the re-election of the association's management, the articles of association were amended with regard to the composition of the board of directors. The first official act of the new head of the association Tanja Machalet was the appointment of Alfred Labonte as honorary chairman in order to pay tribute to his services to the choir association.

At the presentation of the association dates, Raimund Schäfer highlighted the planned children's and youth choir singing for 2026 on 14.06.2026 in Hillscheid, stated that the choir association will carry out further training measures for volunteers and functionaries and that the Westerwälder Chorfest is again in the planning as a major choral event in 2027. For the choir association Rhineland-Palatinate, he referred to the Candoro performance singing in November and advertised for the participation in this succession of the master choir singing, in which the choirs of the Westerwald were always very successful, for Region I to the planned seminars ‘Singen nach Noten’ and ‘Chorische Stimmbildung’ and the Night of the Choirs on 1 August 2026 in Hachenburg. The list of dates of the clubs shows that the clubs in the Westerwald will again have many different choral events in preparation in 2026, so that the motto ‘singing together, happy together, strong together – the Westerwalds’ is happily actively lived in the choirs.

Next year, the MGV Harmonie-Liederkranz Eschelbach will host the Association Day in the Chorgruppe Süd.
