In its open-air event ChorAktiv ‘Chorsingen aktiv erleben und Enjoy’, which is usually held every two years, the Westerwald Choral Association presents representative choirs from the Westerwald Choral Association. Powerful choirs from the
Areas Children's and Youth Choir, Women's Choir, Mixed Choir and Project Choir present their skills and entertain listening with a varied repertoire of choral literature of traditional and modern style.
The event is designed in such a way that visitors can join in at any time, enjoy choral singing while standing, sitting or enjoying a coffee or ice cream and devote themselves to the musical enjoyment of the lectures for any length of time. This open choral action is intended to attract and arouse the interest of those interested in choral singing, but also in particular visitors from the respective venue (so far in Montabaur, Ransbach-Baumbach and Bad Marienberg) and surroundings who have not yet turned to choral singing.
ChorAktiv 2025 - Entertaining choral singing in bright summer weather in Bad Marienberg
Seven choirs of the choir association Westerwalder presented themselves at Chor Aktiv in Bad Marienberg
Over two and a half hours of varied and entertaining choral literature, the numerous visitors were able to actively experience ChorAktiv – Chorsingen choral event and enjoy it on Saturday on the market square in Bad Marienberg. The choirs from the field of children's choir, women's choir, mixed choir and project choir represented a representative mixture of the choir landscape of the Westerwald. The choral event was again organised in such a way that visitors could listen to the lectures at any time – standing, sitting, having a coffee, cold drink or an ice cream in their hand – ‘Musical enjoyment – no matter how long’. Of course, this form of choral presentation is also intended to appeal to visitors who are not permanent visitors to choral events and who are aroused by their interest in choral music.
The following choirs presented themselves: Project choir Wallmerod (CL Mario Siry), Project choir Edelweiss Hillscheid (CL Angela Siry), Class 5 choir at LMG Montabaur (CL Tobias Simon, GC Liederkranz Oberelbert (CL Tobias Schneider), Frauenchor Lochum, GC Stimmgeflecht Hirtscheid, GC Mixed Allegro Singers Müschenbach (all CL Edda Sevenich).
The choral literature presented covered the entire spectrum of choral music from folk song in German such as ‘Kein Feuer, nicht Kohle’ or international such as ‘An Irish Blessing’ to modern choral literature in German such as ‘König von Deutschland’, ‘somewhere in the world’ or international such as ‘Hit the road Jack’ or ‘Don*t stop wie now’. Each visitor found interesting and inspiring choral lectures for themselves and was able to get an idea of how diverse choral singing is in the choirs of the Westerwaldes.
The children's choir of the 5th class of the LMG Montabaur not only succeeded in inspiring with its lectures, but also actively involved all visitors. In ‘Ewe Thina’, a traditional dance song from South Africa, CL Tobias Simon asked all those present not only to sing along with the catchy text, but also to take the dance steps that go with it, so that a large singing and dancing community emerged on the marketplace. The same community experience was also created by Edda Sevenisch, who, after the convincing lectures of her three choirs at the end of the choir event, invited all visitors to sing together with the choirs the well-known Irish blessing wishes ‘May the streets lead us together’, thus creating a fascinating singing large choir, a great final moment of ChorAktiv 2025.
The event took place in good high summer weather. With the support of the construction yard of the city of Bad Marienberg, seating and shade-giving umbrellas had been set up. This shade was sought after by visitors due to the high summer temperatures. Active members of the Chores Klangwelt from Fehl-Ritzhausen took over the catering of the singers and visitors, so that the choir association Westerwald could look forward to a completely successful choral event in Bad Marienberg as an event. Press officer Raimund Schäfer, who co-hosted the event together with the musical director Mario Siry, was able to say "With the new ChorAktiv, the Westerwald Choral Association was once again able to set up a beautiful and entertaining choral event. Although there were only seven choirs this year, we are anxious to offer this choir format in the future and then again to have a greater response from the choirs of the Westerwald. Such a choral event is always an advertisement for choral singing in the Westerwald and hopefully also appeals to visitors who are not yet chorally active”.
